About
Alice was beginning to get very tired of sitting by her sister on the bank, and of having nothing to do: once or twice she had peeped into the book her sister was reading, but it had no pictures or conversations in it, ‘and what is the use of a book,’ thought Alice, ‘without pictures or conversation?’
- Lewis Carroll, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland
Philosophy
This is a place where I share my photographs in a way that that I hope will inspire others, either to take photographs or have their photographs taken. I’m passionate about what I photograph, whether they be special moments I want to capture, special events I want to document, or special memories I want to preserve.
I have friends who do not like how their teeth look or how their skin looks or how their scars look. I do not like how my ass looks. But guess what? Our teeth and skin and scars and asses are seen every day by everyone we meet. And to them they look normal.
The problem is that in our heads we don’t look normal, we look how we want to look, and we get upset when this does not match up to what we see in photographs. It is with this in mind that I shape the way I photograph, to help people see the beauty that I see.
I believe:
- everyday is extraordinary and everyone is beautiful
- everyone deserves to be photographed in a way that makes them feel comfortable, flaws and all
- everyone deserves to have beautiful photographs of the people, places, and things they find special
Biography
I don’t really feel as though I have much of a story to tell yet, because I’m just at the beginning. A lot of things have happened to bring me to this point, and for every one of those things I am grateful. Right now I’m a woman with a camera, and I’m not afraid to use it.
I cannot really remember when I started being interested in photography, but I grew up around cameras. My Grandpa had an SLR, as did my Mom, and as a result there are a lot of really great pictures of me floating around. Like the one above, where I’m being held by Grandpa and being photographed by Mom. In high school I would lug a camera to every event I could (my favourites were always hockey games) and was always proud to see something I shot in the yearbook. While in university I was not able to take many photographs because of lack of time and money, but one of the first treats that I bought myself when I became a public servant was my very own SLR. And so here I am.
Me in 50 words or less:
I’m a not-so-newbie nine-to-fiver, passionate storyteller, aspiring photographer, displaced farm girl, pet lover, avid Canadianist, video game connoisseur, questioning believer, spirited debater, fervent bibliophile, internet junkie, art lover, yogini wannabe, movie buff, wishful traveller, bathtub philosopher, cooking show fanatic and unapologetic dreamer.
