Boy, this year has shaped up to be a cold one! Luckily I spent the evening with S. and her lovely family watching CBC and playing Scrabble. Ma S. didn’t like some of the words I used, but I was ready for that. We had a lovely soup for supper, and many delicious snacks. At about 11:20 we ventured to downtown Ottawa where we tried to find a good spot to watch the “fireworks” display on the canal. While driving over the Laurier bridge, I had the brilliant idea that we should go park on the Mackenzie King Bridge, as I could see a few people over there already in the bus lane. I guess the strike was good for one thing!
I rang in the New Year with S. in the cold, my fingers froze to bring you the photo you see here. It was super beautiful, we could see all the Christmas lights alongside the Peace Tower. Oh, I can’t forget the “fireworks.” I say that in quotes, but they were really quite amazing, even if they were a pyrotechnics display. Don’t worry A., much better than the ones at Major’s Hill on Canada Day over Hawksley.
I have so much planned for this year, it’s not even funny. I’m not going to go into it all right now, as I’m only filling time before I call back home for Manitoba New Year. This year will be the tenth that I’ve spent in Ottawa and I have a whole bunch of things I want to do to celebrate. Many of these things include photography projects that I’ll tell you about later. Like say after I’ve slept.
A quick look back at 2008 that I’m taking via my Flickr photostream:
- I started playing Dungeons and Dragons and I love it. I’m such a dork.
- There was a big snow storm!
- My little lady K. had her first birthday!
- I planted a huge balcony garden (pictures of which will be part of one of my projects!)
- I went to my first sugar bush. Man I love Quebec.
- I got rid of a bunch of old crap at a garage sale. Very cleansing.
- I went to the Tulip Festival for the first time and took some lovely photos. At least I think they are lovely.
- My little sister graduated from University, what a smarty. I was so proud at her convocation.
- Baby R. was born! What an amazing little human.
- I celebrated one year with my two lovely kittens.
- I made lovely strawberry jam with E., J. and S.
- I saw Hawksley Workman on Canada Day.
- My parents moved into a new home and I went and visited them!
- I took hundreds of pictures of my colleagues playing soccer. I love it so much!
- I had a lovely 27th Birthday Party at Mekong, it was nummerlicious.
- The Canadian Election sucked, but I made some awesome appetizers for my English Leader’s Debate Bingo Party.
- The American Election rocked, yay Obama!
- My Mom and Dad came to Ottawa for Thanksgiving, we went to a Senator’s game and Cirque du Soleil.
- I started buying local and organic produce from a farmer.
- I celebrated a magical birthday with lovely S. and her Tinkerbell cake.
That’s sadly where my photostream ends for now, I was going to go through and put all the links in for you but I realized that it’s almost time to call the parents in Manitoba, so you’ll have to go dig through it yourself if you want to see the pictures that go along with the words up there.
So once again, Happy New Year! And get ready for all my bloggedy goodness to come….
